I just want to give an update for friends and family on my mom, she will be out of touch for a few days (she has no access at the moment to her computer. She does have her phone, but she is medicated so it is hit and miss if she's able to talk). She had her colon removed and some damage to her bladder repaired about a week and a half ago, surgery went well. She rebounded quickly and came home last Wednesday. Yesterday around 4 am she woke me up in excruciating pain, her entire leg was swollen to at least twice its normal size and bright red. I took her to the ER and after an ultrasound they confirmed that every vein throughout her left leg was completely clotted and she was transported to Lake West to their vascular surgeon. He ordered a CT scan to make sure there were no clots elsewhere and it showed she had in fact had a pulmonary embolism, a clot had traveled to her right lung. She is not eligible for TPA because of being post-op, they don't want to risk creating internal bleeding, and they are unable to run a catheter through her veins, due to other complications. So, she is on blood thinners with the hope her body will be able to resolve this on its own and she will remain on them for the next year. The good news is the ER Dr said she may very likely lose her leg due to the crushing pressure of built up blood destroying the vascular system, but it doesn't appear to have done any significant damage. So at this moment she is doing well, and when she is released we will be transferring her to an after care facility for a week or two, just to be on the safe side (and so I can avoid having a nervous breakdown) bridesmaid collations with 3 4 sleeve
